Frequently Asked Questions (F.A.Q.)

1) What?
This blog documents my attempt to watch a film every day and learn as much as I can about the medium of film. Articles on The Final Girl Project will include reviews, essays, questions, roundtable discussions, etc. Most likely, I will digress and start talking about television, music and other popular culture. Even more likely, I’ll blow off the film schedule, skipping, moving around and completely ignoring films at my own self-indulgent discretion.

Name: I picked the title of this blog by embracing my “girl scout” charms and keeping an eye out on film wordage. The result was “The Final Girl Project”. For a more in-depth look at the Final Girl archetype, I wrote a post on the Final Girl when I opened the blog.

Coverage: Yes, I often write reviews of events throughout the city of Toronto, and sometimes watch screeners. If you would like to contact me regarding press coverage of your event or film, you can contact me through email. I will get back to you within two business days.

Podcast: Yes, I have a podcast — Some Cast It Hot. The podcast is dedicated to film, co-hosted by lovely lady-bloggers and published biweekly. If you have any recommendations, questions or concerns, you can contact Some Cast It Hot through email.

2) Who?
My name is
Sasha James and I’m twenty-two years old. Not that you can tell by my blundering writing, but I’ve just graduated from university with a degree in English Literature. If I told you anything else, it would be way too easy to track me down. I’m trying as hard as I can to avoid Freddy Krueger, Michael Myers, Jason Voorhees and their associates. In all actuality, that’s way too much information already.

3) When?
Every day, if we’re lucky. Also, The Final Girl Project was (officially) launched on November 24, 2009.

4) Where? Toronto. Sometimes big-shots call it “Hollywood North”. It’s home to the Toronto Maple Leafs, the CN Tower, Scott Pilgrim and my couch. Sounds awesome, right? Well, for four months out of the year it’s goddamned cold.

5) Why?
Last September, as a treat to myself in my last year of university, I enrolled in a film course. I thought it would be easy. I was wrong, of course. I had no idea what my classmates (let alone the professor) were saying. “Blaxploitation”? “Nouvelle Vague”? I was happy I knew what they meant by “Polanski”. Because I didn’t want to look like a complete dip-shit in class, I decided I should watch some more movies.
